Pascal Houle (Groupe BMR) Breakfast Meeting 2015

Pascal Houle Outlines Plans for BMR

On March 17, 2015, Pascal Houle, the newly appointed CEO of Groupe BMR, spoke to a packed room at a CHHMA Breakfast Speaker Seminar held at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Longueuil, Quebec.

Mr. Houle holds a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Laval and is a certified management accountant. He has worked within La Coop network since 1998, starting as hardware director for La Coop des Appalaches and following as management advisor at La Coop fédérée.  In 2004, he became director of hardware, materials and petroleum products at La Coop des Bois-Francs before being appointed general manager of the same cooperative which has sales of nearly $237 million.

Pascal joined Groupe BMR as vice-president, retail, in 2013, before being appointed executive vice-president. On March 4, 2015, Mr. Houle was appointed CEO of Groupe BMR and has responsibility for the hardware and material activities of La Coop fédérée, which operates its 350 franchises under the BMR and Unimat banners (now the #2 player in Quebec, after RONA).
During the presentation, Mr. Houle discussed how much has been achieved already since the merger but that the next 12 to 18 months will certainly continue to be busy as the company completes the integration of BMR’s and La Coop fédérée’s operations and dealer networks.

Pascal discussed how both the BMR and Unimat banners are important and will be both maintained and developed with different market positioning.Currently there are 170 Unimat stores and 180 BMR stores located mainly in Quebec with a few dealers in Ontario and the Maritimes.

He sees a very promising future for the company and expects good growth over the next 5 to 10 years. Although, Ontario expansion will not be a priority in the short-run, the business formula is a good one which can be expanded across the country.

Mr. Houle says vendors will see advantages in dealing with one buying office and the combination of trade shows.

The company plans to redo the website this year and include all products and pricing although purchasing online will not be available.

Mr. Houle talked about how training for their store employees is important as is environmental responsibility providing several examples.

We thank Pascal for taking the time to speak to our members and wish the company well in its future plans. The CHHMA will be making a donation to the Fondation Les amis d’Elliot on behalf of Mr. Houle.
