NAFTA: The Way Forward? Seminar

An audience of CHHMA and COPA members were treated to a highly informative and engaging presentation by Janice Gross Stein, Founding Director, Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto, on September 27, 2018 at the Centre for Health & Safety Innovation (CHSI) in Mississauga.

Ms. Stein’s
presentation provided some real insight into the key issues on the table during the Canada-U.S. NAFTA negotiations and why some of these factors are important to Canada and why some are not in the big picture.  She highlighted the political versus economic influences and what the real impacts are going to be for the Canadian economy.  An important discussion addressed the old economy (industrial manufacturing) versus new economy (digital) focus and where real job growth will come from. Ms. Stein also touched upon the U.S.-China trade war that has emerged, the structural problems with China’s economy and the impact that these trade disputes and use of tariffs will have on the North American and Global economies.

We thank Ms.
Stein for her excellent presentation and insights and we will look at hopefully having her speak again to our members at a future event.
