17th Annual Industry Memorial Golf Classic

The 17th Annual Industry Memorial Golf Classic took place on October 3, 2018 at the beautiful Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton, Ontario on a comfortable fall day.

CHHMA members, non-members, invited customers, friends and family came out to golf and remember this year’s honourees - Les Coleman, David Deyell and Bob McKerlie as well as all the other past honourees.  The event honours stalwarts from the Canadian hardware & housewares industry who have recently passed away.

Once again, we had great support from Home Hardware’s management team and buyers, many of who were in attendance.

Dinner & Silent Auction

After a fun time on the golf course, an afternoon dinner and silent auction was held to raise money for the CHHMA Scholarship Program.  We would like to thank the companies who provided items for the auction and the individuals who bid on them in addition to the hole sponsors (see the list below) and golfers who purchased Event Passports that enabled them to participate in the hole competitions and draws.  All these efforts contributed to the Scholarship Program.

After dinner, John Seymour, former President of Hamilton Beach Brands Canada and a Past Chairman of the CHHMA, spoke about his long-time colleague and friend Les Coleman’s time in the housewares industry and his passion for golf.  Alison Smeets, a colleague of David Deyell’s at Armacell Canada (formerly ITP) reminisced about working with David and the impact he had on the growth of the company in Canada and the US.  She also discussed David’s love of skiing and cycling and the fun times she spent with David and his family outside of work.  David’s son Cory was also able to join us on the day.  Finally, Bill Wilson talked about his former colleague and mentor Bob McKerlie and his long career at D.H. Howden, where he was known for his famous pipe smoking, enjoyment in hosting friends and co-workers at his home and his time spent on the farm.  These gentlemen will all be missed.
