6th Annual Industry Memorial Golf Classic

Unlike last year when things were a little damp, to say the least, this year's tournament saw outstanding weather with our attendees basking in glorious sunshine at the famous Angus Glen golf course. Our annual Industry Memorial Golf Classic is an event that, although it resides toward the end of the golf season, is always one that many of the members of our Industry hold in high esteem. This is because it is an opportunity to honour a member, or members, of the Industry who have passed on and yet have left an enduring legacy some way. Our 6th annual Industry Memorial Golf Classic, at Angus Glen's South Course on September 26th, was held in honour of two very well respected gentlemen from our industry. They were Mr. Mel Boshart of Boshart Industries and Mr. George Giles of Giles Tools. We had the good fortune of hearing accounts of the careers and lives of these men from different sources and I believe we all felt they richly deserved the honour. It was also a pleasure to see representatives of both families at dinner and have the opportunity to meet and speak with them.

The weather for the day turned out to be perfect for golf. The right temperature, the right amount of sunshine and, for some of those attending, the right score. Some great rounds were turned in and the low gross score for the day went to Mr. Randy Britton who shot a very creditable 83. There were numerous other prizes awarded for a variety of different conditions such as closest to the pin and longest drive. The prizes for these were awarded by our hole sponsors without whom this day would not be the success it always is. The sponsors were; Boshart Industries, Canadian Thermos, Colorite Plastics, Groupe SEB Canada, Lyncar Products, McDonald Sales, MTD Products, Onward Sales & Marketing and Stanley Canada.

Another factor that makes a big difference to this tournament is the silent auction that is held before and during dinner. The donations for this part of the day were very well received and generated a definite buzz in the room as well as a substantial amount for the CHHMA Scholarship fund which is the recipient of the funds raised by this tournament. There was also a live auction, held by our auctioneer-at-large, CHHMA President, Mr. Vaughn Crofford, who ensured the activity was hard and fast as well as adding greatly to the enjoyment of the day. We also had numerous companies donate a myriad of prizes to be won throughout the round. Through the purchase of a passport everyone was entered for all of the competitions which included a poker draw; closest to the pin on all the par 3's, longest men's and ladies' drives and a most accurate tee shot hole. We're happy to report that, in the typical response we see from our industry, every golfer was supportive and bought a passport and our silent auction after dinner was very well subscribed. Our thanks go to everyone.

It was a marvelous day with great company and happy prize winners, but the real purpose of the event was not overlooked and we thank you all again for supporting the CHHMA Scholarship Program. Here are some more photos of the tournament.
