Seminar: Is HR Ready for This? Mental Health, Minimum Wage, Marijuana and Harassment

 A number of HR mangers were on hand on December 4, 2017 at the Centre for Health & Safety Innovation in Mississauga for an information session put on by the CHHMA and COPA for our respective members.

The seminar entitled
“Is HR Ready for This? Mental Health, Minimum Wage, Marijuana and Harassment” covered off the changes and new aspects to several employment acts in Ontario which are taking effect in the New Year including:

Bill 127 – Changes to the Workplace Safety Insurance Act
(WSIA) regarding workplace chronic mental stress;

Bill 148 – The Fair Workplaces, Better Job Act including increases to the minimum wage among many other changes;

Bill 132 – Update on the changes made a year ago to the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA) in regards to workplace harassment;

Federal Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act - The impact of legalizing recreational marijuana and the implications for the workplace.

Top-rated experts including Viki Scott, an HR/Employment Consultant and President of Scott & Associates as well as representatives from Blaney McMutry LLP, a firm specializing in Labour and Employment law, were on hand to take attendees through the changes and what companies need to be ready for as well as answer a number of questions from those in attendance.

Feedback from the presentation was very
positive and we thank all the presenters for taking the time to speak to our members and the advice that was provided.We hope to conduct some further info sessions on these and other potential HR topics in the coming months.
