Canadian Data Synchronization Information Session

CHHMA Members Get Updated on Data Synchronization Initiative

On October 30, 2014, representatives from a number of vendors within the hardware/housewares industry & other industries, and a few major retailers, were on hand at the International Centre Conference Facility for an information session organized by the CHHMA to discuss the latest on the data synchronization initiative within Canada.

Brian Miles from Commport Communications International, a GDSN-certified data pool service provider, was invited to give a presentation and answer questions.

Mr. Miles provided information on the use, benefits and differences of the two service options being utilized in Canada today, namely, GDSN – the Global Data Synchronization Network and GS1 Canada’s ECCnet Catalogue Service and also what is being used globally. He also outlined his thoughts on where the adoption of these services is going in the future.

Due to the significant costs involved for vendors and retailers to implement data synchronization within the Hardlines/LBM sector, the CHHMA is working on behalf of our members to see that this is done in a careful and fair way and that there is an open, competitive, global playing field for service providers that will lead to a lower cost solution for our members.

If you were unable to attend the information session but would like to get further information on this important subject, please contact CHHMA President Vaughn Crofford at 416-282-0022 ext. 30 or
