Over 100 members attended this year's Annual General Meeting & Congress (AGM) at the Sheraton Parkway North Toronto to hear reports on the business affairs of the Association, as well as issues affecting our industry and economy.
Don Drummond, Senior Economist with TD Bank Leads Off Congress

Don Drummond of the TD Bank once again spoke to the membership on the state of the world economy and what effects, if any, the current issues around the world will have on the North American, and more specifically the Canadian economy, through the next year. Like many economists, Mr. Drummond expects the North American economy to start off slower in the first half than was the case in 2002, but pick up momentum as the year progresses.

Kubas Consultants - the Retail Trends

In addition, he talked about retailer marketshares and what consumers perceive are the strengths and weaknesses of the various Canadian retailers.

Stewardship Ontario - Bill C90 Will Cost CHHMA Members Significant Dollars
Joe Hruska of Stewardship Ontario spoke to the members about the new Waste Diversion Act (Bill C90), and the impact it will have on manufacturers and importers in Ontario. He outlined what is expected of companies in the coming months, and provided insight into approximate costs that will be incurred by companies manufacturing or importing packaged goods into Ontario. Mr. Hruska also gave several examples of what a typical cost would be for various types of packaging, from corrugated cardboard to blister packs. There remains a lot of unanswered questions, and CHHMA will stay involved as this is implemented, to ensure our members are on a level playing field.
