Canadian Tire (Peg Hunter) Breakfast Meeting

CTC VP lays out Housewares Strategy for CHHMA Members

The CHHMA Business Events Committee wanted to focus more on the operating managerial level at our breakfast presentations to give members a greater insight into how our retail customers actually function. If the February 26th event with Peg Hunter, Divisional Vice President/GMM of Housewares/Home Electronics at CTC is an example of what we can expect, then the committee is on the right track.

Ms. Hunter brought out several members of her buying team, talked about what her expectations from that group are, and what CTC buyers and management feel a good vendor presentation involves, and how lasting partnerships are formed. She went on to explain where and how Canadian Tire sees growth opportunity in housewares, and the new store layouts that will increase traffic in housewares departments. On the lighter side, Ms. Hunter set the target for 9% growth in 2003, but then explained that this was the target for the past two years, and in each of those years they achieved 6.8%. "This year we are damned well going to make it," says Peg, and there would be few people in that room, after having listened to her presentation, that would doubt her chances.
